Port Washington NY Yellow Pages

Port Washington is a hamlet in North Hempstead on the North Shore of Long Island. The area is only 5 square miles which is home to other villages and a large unincorporated area. English settlers purchased land in the area from the Dutch in the 17th century. The Dutch had purchased the land from the Matinecock Indians. The English used the area for cow pastures which gave it the name of Cow Neck on the peninsula and Cow Bay for the west side.

Port Washington has its own school system. The main businesses and restaurants are found along Manorhaven Boulevard, Manhasset Bay, Shore Road, and Main Street. The area is still dotted with many of the homes built at the turn of the century.

The most popular attraction in Port Washington is the resort hotels where visitors enjoy the water and beach. Residents are proud of their community and strive to preserve the beauty and history which is one reasons so many wish to visit Port Washington.
